New BMW X7 spied testing

According to Khabar Khodro, the BMW X7 has been spotted testing in camouflaged form before it goes on sale later this decade.

The X7 was confirmed for production in 2014, and the new car has now been spotted out and about undergoing cold-weather testing in Scandinavia.

The mule is based on the new 7 Series tester.

It is based on a long-wheelbase version of the platform that is set to underpin the next X5, and is set to be the biggest SUV yet produced by BMW. It will be built at the company's plant at Spartanburg in the United States and is intended to take on the likes of the Mercedes GL.

It is also expected to be more popular in markets such as the US and China, where large SUVs of this size are more common. The X7 would compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator in the US.

It is thought that the test mule features a high-power engine and four-wheel drive. The production car is likely to feature a selection of six-cylinder and V8 engines, such as the 3.0-litre diesel 30d, 40d and 50d, and the 50i petrol from the BMW X6.
