Achieving technology is the most important priority of Iran Tire Industry

According to Khabar Khodro, the CEO of Yazd Tire Company has announced that the most important priority and concern of tire industry is achieving technology and said, “Achieving any new technology in tire industry can make it export oriented.”

Dr. Sotoode in an interview with Khabar Khodro’s reporter told, “After achieving new technologies in tire industry we should do some actions for investments and machinery.”

He mentioned to sanctions as the most important barrier in achieving technology and added, “If nuclear talks is finalized an important part of existing barriers in achieving technology in tire industry would be removed and we would see presence of foreign companies and investors in Iran.”

He admitted, “Unfortunately, sales of tire making companies is facing problems as the result of high levels of imports that still continue and has downturn in local market.”

He reiterated, “Increasing imports has resulted in production decrease of these companies as compared to last year. However, production decrease varies in any company but in Yazd Tire there has been about 5 percent decrease while this amount could be added to production capacity while considering increase in production potentials.”

He mentioned to the 167 percent increase in tire imports last year as compared to previous year and remarked, “Importing tires this year is not changed as compared to last year and even there are increases in imports of some tires.”

Sotoode added, “Reports on importing tires in first two months of this year show that importing tires of passenger cars has increased 3 percent compared to last year and there are about 57 percent increases in importing tires of busses and commercial vehicles.”

Finally, he remarked, “There is no doubt that uncontrolled imports would hurt local manufacturing while tire industry is strategic and needs support from tariffs.”
