Peugeot says that the 208 GTI has lost 165 kg (363 pounds) after a long diet and the hot hatch is now powered by a 1.6 liter turbo engine, which is producing a total output of 197 horsepower and it has a peak torque of 203 lb-ft, 22 HP more than the 207 GTI. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the model has been fitted with a firmer steering system, an anti-roll bar and a different suspension. The 0 to 62 mph acceleration is over in less than 7 seconds.
Besides the Peugeot 208 GTI, the company has also brought the production version of the 208 XY at the same 2012 Paris Motor Show. Peugeot says that the model will get five other exterior colors along with the Purple Night shade and it’s also coming with chromed rim caps, chromed ornaments for the side windows, chromed front grille, chromed surrounds for the fog lights, ornaments for the roof and 17-inch alloy wheels. The 1.6 e-HDi engine with 92 HP and 115 HP will be available for the 208 XY, along with the 120 HP 1.6 VTi and the 155 HP 1.6 THP.
