William Hague, British Foreign Secretary, said on Friday that his country is to open an embassy in Bishkek to focus on the developmental and political cooperation between the British and Kyrgyz governments.

However, no date has been set for the opening of the embassy.

To people's surprise, the visa section and other divisions for consular services are to remain in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Department of International Development's (DID) program for Central Asia, which is geared towards Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and totals USD22 million per year, is to work closely with the embassy.

The head office of DID is to remain in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
