Renault has diesel engine shortage

Reports in France indicate Renault has a diesel engine shortage affecting all models, although the situation is expected to improve later this year.

" According to KHABAR KHODRO, We are short of diesel engines across all the range, in France and in Europe and thus short of cars," commercial director France Bernard Cambier was quoted as noting in newspaper La Tribune.

"When planning the production of small diesels, we had not anticipated such market demand, which is much stronger than expected. We had adjusted our capacities and investments ... For a Clio diesel ordered now, you must expect delivery in late October," he said.

Reuters says Renault's group sales fell 18.2% in May, with the automaker citing part of the drop due to shortages impacting its manufacturing, although Cambier is believed to expect this to improve during the second half of 2011.

Renault in Paris was not immediately available for comment.
