Volkswagen sees MAN/Scania synergies in cars report says

Volkswagen wants to tap possible synergies between its truck units MAN and Scania as well as the passenger car business, weekly Focus said, citing Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn.

According to KHABAR KHODRO, Volkswagen this month said it had clinched a 55.9 percent stake in MAN, its second major industry holding after Swedish truckmaker Scania.

"There are big potential synergies here," Winterkorn said.

He added some driving assistance and security features installed on MAN and Scania trucks could also be offered at lower cost to Volkswagen's passenger cars.

Europe's biggest carmaker would be able to sell safety and driver-assistance systems such as lane-switching aids to MAN and Scania at a rebate as part of the integration process, Focus said. The trucks would also benefit from VW's car-interior technology, Winterkorn was cited as saying.
