TATA Motors cars to use lightweight aluminum engines in India

The auto industry has been reeling under reduced profits and declining demand for past few months.

According to KHABAR KHODRO, Rising fuel prices and escalating interest rates have put a damper on auto sales which is affecting all major auto companies because buyers are skeptical. On the other hand, car manufacturers have had to increase car prices based on increasing costs of inputs and auto components. In a bid to bring down prices and increase sales, Tata Motors have planned to manufacture lightweight aluminum engines. These engines would be more fuel efficient because of significant weight reduction, thereby addressing fuel efficiency, and related costs.

A spokesperson of Tata Motors has claimed that all future cars of the company would be sporting this aluminum engine and work on its development is already underway. Tata Motors have recorded a 21% drop in sales across the first 5 five months of the current fiscal. Tata vehicles such as Indica and Indigo offer 25 kmph mileage. As per Automotive Research Association of India – ARAI, this is the maximum offered so far in the country.

Apart from the all-aluminum (head and block) construction in engines, Tata Motors is also coming out with another version of direct injection rail engine which will make combustion chamber more efficient. Besides this, there has been continues talk of Tata Motors soon offering a diesel version of the Nano which could register 30 to 35 kmph. Its present petrol version offers 23 kmph but has drawn flak based on frequent Tata Nano fire incidents.
