Mercedes-Benz E300 Bluetec Hybrid does 4.2 l/100 km

According to Khabarkhodro,A new hybrid has recently entered Mercedes-Benz’s lineup in the shape of the E300 Bluetec Hybrid, which is powered by a diesel engine and an electric motor.

The German based automaker’s Mercedes-Benz lineup has just gotten bigger with the E300 Bluetec Hybrid, a “green” version of the new E-Class which is using a diesel engine and an electric motor to achieve an impressive fuel economy of just 4.2 liters every 100 km. Mercedes-Benz says that the E300 Bluetec Hybrid is powered by a four-cylinder 2.2 liter diesel engine, which is developing a total output of 204 horsepower and it has a peak torque of 500 Nm. The diesel burner is “helped” by an electric motor with 26 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque which is being “kept alive” by a 0.8 kWh battery.

The electric motor is being “hidden” inside the transmission and it’s allowing the E300 Bluetec Hybrid to run on zero emissions at speeds up to 35 km/h, but no longer than 1 km. After the electric motor has been “depleted”, the diesel burner steps in and offers more torque and power through a 7G-Tronic transmission. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes just 7.5 seconds and the model can go up to 242 km/h while emitting 109 g/km CO2.
