Kia is trying to enter just about every segment out there and after it has shown its hybrid for the new model year in the United States and unveiled its first ever C-segment hot hatch, the Cee’d GT and its three-door brother, the Pro_Cee’d GT, the South Korean based automaker has even bigger plans for itself. According to the British journalists at What Car, the company is getting ready to develop a new cheap sports car which will be a direct rival for the Toyota GT86, the Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ.
The announcement has been made by Rom Kearns, the Kia head of design for North America, who told the source mentioned above a few words on a “cheap coupe” with “two seats” and “rear-wheel drive”. The company’s officials are hoping that such a model will drastically change the image of Kia on the Old Continent and in the U.S., in order to place it on the same table with its future rivals. Details on the Kia sports car remain unknown for the moment and will probably be announced over the following months.
