2015 VW Passat B8: new details and specs released

The 2015 VW Passat B8 will make its official debut next month, but technical presentation leaked ahead of that special event. As expected, the 8th generation of the Passat is planning to go upscale and will debut with new technologies such as the new adaptive lightning technology called Dynamic Light Assist.

Available as an option, the Dynamic Light Assist makes sure that the LED headlights reveal you any angle but what’s more interesting is that with some help from a camera the vehicle adjusts the headlights according to the speed and road conditions.

The LED taillights will be offered as standard. The interior will feature a new gauge cluster that uses a 12.3 inch TFT display, just like the one used by the 2015 Audi TT. The LCD screen has a resolution of 1440x540 pixels and replaces the classic dashboard as well as the navigation system.

Thanks to the new MQB platform, the 2015 Passat B8 will be 85 kg lighter than its predecessor.

Under the hood, we will find plenty of new engines. We have two 1.4-liter TSI petrol engines that deliver 125 PS while the other one generates 150 PS and comes with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT).

There is also a 1.8-liter TSI that develops 180 PS (132 kW). The 2.0-liter TSI will be available in two versions, one delivering 220 PS (162 kW), while the other one delivers an impressive 280 PS (206 kW).

Regarding the diesel engines, we have a 1.6-liter TDI with 120 PS (88 kW) but also two versions of the popular 2.0-liter TDI that generates 150 PS (110 kW) and 190 PS (140 kW). The new 2.0-liter TDI biturbo diesel engine develops 240 PS (176 kW) and 500 Nm of torque.

All the engines meet the Euro 6 emissions standards. Volkswagen will also offer a plug-in hybrid version of the 2015 Passat B8.
