The first anti-corruption meeting of the 10-nation ECOnomic cooperation Organization (ECO) has begun in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani inaugurated the two-day meeting of representatives from the ECO's anti-graft agencies, IRNA reported on Saturday.

The meeting is aimed at investigating ways to improve the fight against corruption and enhance cooperation between the related agencies of the participating ECO members.

The participants are also due to meet Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and visit the country's Supreme Audit Organization at the end of the meeting.

ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey, and provides a platform to promote ECOnomic, technical and cultural cooperation among member states.

The organization was expanded in 1992 to include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as its seven new members.

ECO members intend to establish a single market for goods and services, much like the European Union.
