If a 10-gallon hat holds only about three quarts, how upset should you be if your alleged 13.2-gallon gas tank holds only 11.8?

Fuel tank's a few quarts short, so Nissan sends $400, buyback offer

If a 10-gallon hat holds only about three quarts, how upset should you be if your alleged 13.2-gallon gas tank holds only 11.8?

About $400 worth, Nissan figures.

As KHABAR KHODRO reports , Nissan is sending $400 checks to 4,000 owners of 2011 Juke SUVs, apologizing for an error in marketing materials that says the tank capacity on all-wheel-drive Jukes is 13.2 gallons, the same as front-drive models. In fact, it's only 11.8 gallons.

And Nissan says that if owners still are unhappy about the misprint, it'll buy back the vehicle -- less depreciation, and without the $400 payment. Another option: apply the repurchase value to the purchase of a new vehicle.

It's all about owner satisfaction, the company says. "We hope this action will reinforce your faith in our product," says the mea culpa letter, from Kevin Martin, head of customer satisfaction.

So what's the deal on the hat? Turns out "10-gallon" is a linguistic mangling of a Spanish term that has to do with rim decoration. But that's another story. And no refunds
