Swedish maker Volvo gets its biggest order for hybrid buses – 60 units

Earlier this week, Brazilian city of Curitiba, ordered 60 Hybrid buses from Swedish manufacturer Volvo.

According to KHABAR KHODRO, This makes the biggest order ever to be received for Volvo hybrid buses which consume 35% less fuel compared to other buses in the market. Volvo will start delivering these buses to City of Curitiba from 2012.

Mr Luis Carlos Pimenta, President, South America, Volvo, said, “Several of the largest cities in Brazil and the rest of South America tested a Volvo 7700 Hybrid in 2010 and at the beginning of this year. The tests were very successful and contributed to this first order, which we believe will be followed by additional orders from other cities.”

Hybrid technology has been a huge hit in the auto market today. With people learning the benefits of hybrid vehicles, their demand is at an all time high. Mr Luis added, “Volvo’s hybrid bus reduces fuel consumption by up to 35% and emissions of carbon dioxide by a corresponding amount. Other exhaust emissions decline by 80-90% compared with current levels in South America.”
