Mercedes Benz sporty luxury segment car for the 27 year old Indian

Mercedes Benz India has been losing top spot in the luxury car segment to BMW these past two years. So, while the German triad dishes out one luxury vehicle after another, Mercedes Benz has been doing double duty in trying to play catch up with BMW, while steering clear of Audi India. What may be most exasperating is that both BMW and Audi are younger brands.

According to KHABAR KHODRO, Mercedes Benz India has registered positive sales growth this year, as well as, profits, but is that enough to regain top position in the luxury car market in India. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes Benz India, Peter Honegg had this to say. "We are the oldest as well as the youngest automobile brand in the world. Mercedes was established 125 years ago and we have constantly re-invented ourselves. We own 80 per cent of all auto patents worldwide, we have technological expertise. What we have to do now is to communicate that to our buyers".

The focus now is to bring forth Mercedes in a sporty outlook for India youth. This will gain momentum with Mercedes Benz strengthening relations with Formula One in order to work towards the concept of sporty car launches. This works in tandem with changing dynamics of the Indian consumer market, one of the youngest globally with an average age of 27 years that has shown increasing interest in sports cars n the Indian luxury car market. Mercedes Benz has plans to set up their first brand unit in Delhi by 2011 end, and has this week inaugurated the Mercedes Benz India Star Lounge at T3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi.
