Saab staves off bankruptcy with $157M loan

Saab has reportedly been brought back from the brink yet again as the Swedish automaker has secured a new loan worth $157 million. The cash infusion should allow Saab to pay employees for the month of August and stave off bankruptcy.

According to KHABAR KHODRO, Although Saab has yet to confirm the report, sources close to the situation say that the ailing automaker has secured the funds with one of Europe’s top banks. An official announcement on the matter could be made by the end of the day.

Saab failed to pay workers on time for the third straight month in August, with today’s date holding a significant meaning. Per Swedish law, unpaid Saab employees could have pushed the automaker into bankruptcy today.

Still, Saab remains on unstable ground, with payments to white collar workers due on September 5. It remains to be seen if the latest loan will be enough to cover those expenditures.

Saab said it planned to restart production at its main Trollhattan plant on August 29, but the factory remains idle
