Saturn Aura investigated by the NHTSA

According to KHABARKHODRO, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has decided to investigate the 2007 – 2008 Saturn Aura and Aura Hybrid sedans because of an issue with the automatic shift levers which might eventually led to a recall.

According to the NHTSA, 88.729 units of the 2007 – 2008 Saturn Aura and Aura Hybrid sedans are under investigation, all of them being fitted with the four-speed automatic transmission, and a problem with the automatic shift levers might led to recalling the vehicles.

“The transmission shift cable may fail, resulting in unintended movement of the vehicle”, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in its defects investigation summary. “In a crash incident, the driver reportedly placed the gear shift selector into park but the transmission remained in drive, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly move forward and strike a building”.

The NHTSA also said that a similar automatic transmission was installed on the 2004 – 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and on the 2005 – 2008 Pontiac G6, which were made on the General Motors’ Epsilon platform.
