Honda to unveil new 1.6-liter diesel engine at Geneva

According to Khabarkhodro, Honda Motor will launch a new 118bhp, 1.6-litre diesel engine next month at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The new engine will first appear in the new Honda Civic, and is the first of a new generation engines to appear in the next few years under Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams’ technology banner.

Honda says it plans to be the world leader in fuel-efficiency within three years and, as ambitious as that sounds, it is putting its engines where its mouth is. This 1596cc turbo-diesel will replace the current 2.2-litre oil-burner, first in the Civic and later in other Hondas.

In addition, at Geneva the Japanese automaker will present the European CR-V Prototype, a preview model highlighting the exterior styling direction of the all-new fourth generation European Honda CR-V, which is set to go on sale in Autumn 2012.

The car maker’s NSX Concept will also be at the Geneva show, where it will make its European debut. It will also mark the first time that it gets NSX badging – it appeared at last month’s Detroit motor show with Acura livery.
