Renault Twingo RS says goodbye to you

The French based automaker Renault has recently announced that the Twingo RS won’t be made anymore starting with the next generation of the small vehicle.

According to the car manufacturer, the Renault Twingo RS will leave the company’s lineup because of slow sales and the current version will also be the last one to be made. The Renault Twingo RS is considered to be unprofitable so if you were waiting for the new generation, don’t, it just won’t exist anymore. However Renault will keep the RS versions of the Clio and Megane which are best sellers in almost all markets.

“Right now, as the project is advancing on the Twingo 3, no decision was taken on launching the RS version we see that the current generation is struggling to sell. The reasons are complicated to understand. For me, the car is an excellent product comparable to the Peugeot 205 GTI or the first VW Golf GTI. The Twingo RS is a pure delight to drive, the car is not very expensive and it is a real RS with its 1.6 liter 133 HP”, said Jean Calcat, the head of Renault Sport.

The current Renault Twingo RS is powered by a 1.6 liter 16-valve naturally aspirated engine, which is developing a total output of 133 HP at 6,750 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The small hatch has a fuel economy of 6.5 liters / 100 km and the CO2 emissions are down to just 150 g/km
