Toyota Adds 2nd Shift to St. Petersburg Plant Russia

Toyota announced that it will add a second shift at its Russian plant at the beginning of September, adding 600 new jobs.

The factory in St. Petersburg now produces around 20,000 Camrys annually on a single shift and its workforce will rise to about 1,750 when two-shift operations begin. To promote further localisation in Russia the company will also add stamping and resin-molding processes at the factory in 2014.The number of employees will reach 1,750 when two-shift operations begin.

“Starting two-shift operations is a significant event for our plant. Our employee’s commitment to Toyota principles in quality has resulted in us gaining Russian consumer trust and high evaluations for our Camry. It makes us at TMMR glad to be able to contribute to the economy of St. Petersburg and to its employment,” said TMMR President Yoshinori Matsunaga.

Toyota also plans to carry out business that contributes to the development of Russia’s economy and its automotive industry and work to provide high quality vehicles that meet Russian market and consumer needs.
