Toyota plans to reveal the RAV4 EV next week. The all-electric SUV is the product of a partnership between the Japanese automaker and Tesla Motors, the electric car manufacturer and is Toyota’s second attempt at a green RAV4.
The company plans on showing the RAV4 EV next week at the International Electric Vehicle Symposium in Los Angeles, one of the largest events focusing on EVs. Toyota has shown off the concept before, but expect more information as the event draws closer.
The RAV4 EV was a joint venture between Toyota and Tesla, who supplied the electric powertrain for the vehicle. Toyota invested $50 million in Tesla two years ago and has embarked on a plan to develop mass-market all-electric vehicles and gauge consumer demand for the cars, CNET reports.
The move is a departure from Toyotas focus on hybrids, a focus that came about after plans for the original electric RAV4 fell through.
The RAV4 EV, which is expected to have the same cargo space as the gasoline RAV4 and a range of roughly 100 miles, will likely be sold in just a few markets, as other automakers have tried with electric cars before
