Ford’s April sales of 90,200 units brought the company’s market share a fall of 0.3 percentage points to 7.7% in all its 19 traditional markets.

Ford’s April sales in the UK were up 4.3% to 24,400 units and market share was up 0.5 percentage points to 15.1%. Last month Ford managed to sell 115,700 units in its total 51 markets, 10% down compared to April 2011. In the first four months Ford sold 501,000 units in these markets, down 7.2% compared to last year.

“The UK was a bright spot for Ford in April, and while it was another difficult month for overall auto sales in Europe, we are relatively strong positioned due to a number of key product launches this year,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.

In Russia the brand sold 12,400 units last month and 39,700 year-to-date, a 26% and 29% rise. In Eastern Europe it sold 4,400 vehicles in April and 16,600 year-to-date, up 12% and 16%, in Germany Ford sold 20,100 in April and 81,900 year-to-date, down 1,900 and 2,100 units.
