According to the guys at autocar.co.uk, the future generation of the Volkswagen Golf R will drop the current EA113 2.0 liter turbo engine for the new EA888 unit, which will still come as a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo. Our source is also saying that this engine will make its way under the hood of the upcoming Audi A3 too, and in the Golf R, the unit will produce around 276 BHP, but keep in mind that there is nothing official on this just yet.
Just like the regular version of the Volkswagen Golf, the hot hatch Golf R will ride on the MQB modular platform, the same one used on the new generation of the Audi A3, which will also underpin more models made by VW or its sub-brands. Unfortunately we don’t have any more details on the new Golf R but we will keep you updated on the subject.
