2013 Lexus ES was named IIHS Top Safety Pick

The new Lexus ES, in both the ES 300h and the ES 350, has been recently named the IIHS top Safety Pick, along with other models, like the Acura TL, the current Lincoln MKZ, the Hyundai Azera and the Buick LaCrosse. The outgoing Lexus ES wasn’t a Top Safety Pick because of a marginal rating in the IIHS’ rear test but now the 2013 model year earns the award and, considering the fact that it’s based on the 2013 Toyota Avalon, the sedan should also get the Top Safety Pick.

As a quick reminder, the 2013 Lexus ES has been officially presented to the public during the 2012 New York Auto Show and the model is available over-seas in two versions, the ES 350 and the ES 300h. The 2013 Lexus ES 350 is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine, developing a total output of 268 HP and 248 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission. The 2013 ES 300h is powered by a 2.5 liter five-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, generating 200 HP and allowing an EPA rated fuel economy of 40/39 mpg in city/highway.
