Fisker Karma Reached Its Sixth Month of Production Stoppage

According to khabar khodro، Fisker hasn’t built a single Karma vehicle for 6 months, blaming A123 System’s bankruptcy and the automaker’s renegotiation of the Velmet production contract.

2012 was a luckless year for Fisker which had to deal with fires, floods and recalls, forcing the automaker to stop production of its plug-in hybrid Karma. The company’s spokesman, Roger Ormisher, said that the production delay was caused by A123 System’s bankruptcy and the company’s attempt to renegotiate the Valmet production contract.

After Velmet officials returned from the traditional summer break in August, Fisker wanted to renegotiate the production contract, but during this period A123 announced its bankruptcy.

We took the prudent decision to conserve our battery stock and we already have sufficient supply of Karmas through Q1 of this year. By that time we hope to have renegotiated our battery supply with A123′s new owners Wanxiang,” said Ormisher.

Now Fisker plan is to focus on China, as its only savior, as Beijing supports domestic automakers’ efforts to aquire foreign ‘green car’ technology. Fisker has already had talks with Wanxiang Group, which recently purchased A123 Systems, and with China Grand Automotive Services dealership group.

Fisker is in advanced talks with a number of potential strategic partners,” said Fisker spokesman Roger Ormisher. “We expect some exciting developments in the next few months.”
