GM Keeps Lead Over VW in First Quarter Sales

According to khabar khodro، GM’s global sales increased 3.6% during the first quarter, surpassing VW with about 90,000 vehicles.

Thanks to increased demand for the Chevrolet models in the US and the Buick models in China, GM managed to reach sales of 2.36 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2013. VW’s global sales during the same period increased 5.1% to 2.27 million units, according to the company’s reports.

“Chevrolet is growing around the world by leveraging GM’s global engineering and design expertise to deliver the right products in the right markets,” Mark Reuss, president of GM’s North American operations, said in the statement.

GM struggles to keep its place as the second best-selling automaker in the world after Toyota and ahead VW. Last year Toyota came up with 19 new or refreshed vehicles in the States, regaining the lead from GM, by selling 9.75 million units. GM sold 9.29 million units, including 2.6 million in the States and 2.84 million vehicles in China.

GM plans to introduce 20 new vehicles in the US by the end of this year, with the Impala full-sized sedan reaching showrooms in April, followed by the redesigned Silverado pickup. The new Corvette, unveiled in January in Detroit, has also received some positive feedback and is expected to bring a significant sales increase.
