Seven generations of the Passat have been sold around the world and currently two variants are produced by the German automaker: one for the U.S. and China (as the New Midsize Sedan) and one for the rest of the world. The Passat has also spawned the CC variant, which is a stylish four-door coupe model that originally debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.
Recently, the 2013 Passat TDI set a new Guinness World Record for fuel economy under the non-hybrid car category. Last month, Passat sales hit a record high for Volkswagen in North America, with 10,874 units sold. For the first half of the year, 56,119 Passats have been sold in the U.S.
