Increasing stepwise tariff of importing vehicles according to engine size is not finalized

According to Khabar Khodro, secretary of Iranian Automakers Association mentioned to request of Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade about evaluating tariff of importing vehicles for next year and said, “If decreasing tariff of importing vehicles is concerned, this issues only refers to decreasing tariff of importing hybrid and electric vehicles.”

Ahmad Nematbakhsh in an interview with Khabar Khodro’s reporter told, “In Bahman of every year, Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade revises all tariffs in order to establish new book of import and export regulations. Therefore, a team in this ministry has been appointed for revising tariffs including tariff of importing vehicles.”

He admitted, “Until now, Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has not been offered any issues about decreasing import’s tariff.”

He explained that 40 percent decrease in import’s tariff is not offered at all and remarked, “In suggestion that is offered to the team of revising tariffs of importing vehicles it is said that cars’ tariff to be increased stepwise and according to engine size.”

He said, “According to that, tariff of importing cars with 1000 cc engine is 40 percent, 1000 to 1500 cc is 50 percent, 1500 to 2000 cc is 60 percent, 2000 to 2500 cc is 70 percent, 2500 to 3000 is 80 percent and 3000 to 3500 cc is considered more than 90 percent.”

He mentioned, “This suggestion is offered in order to observe justice and earning more interests for government and is not finalized yet.”

Secretary of Iranian Automakers Association told, “Any fair-minded economist knows that 40 percent tariff for vehicles is not so high.”
