Tail-Lamp Issue Causing Mercedes to Recall Nearly 253,000 C-Class Cars

According to Khabar Khodro, The folks at Mercedes-Benz are recalling nearly 253,000 C-Class vehicles in the United States to correct an issue with the tail lamps.

Model affected by this action include the C300, C350 and C63 AMG. The cars were built between 2007 and the middle of 2011.

The potential issue afflicting these models is a poor electrical ground, something that can result in the dimming or outright failure of the tail lights. Obviously this is a safety concern as it impacts visibility, especially at night.

Mercedes will notify customers in June of the recall action. Parts are expected to become available in August or September. Dealers will inspect the components in question and replace any bulb holders or corroded connectors as necessary.

The company said that in 2009 they received five reports of oxidation issues from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA opened an investigation last year and eventually upgraded the inquiry to an engineering analysis.

As of last December it was reported there were more than 400 complaints about this issue with five crashes and one injury supposedly the result. Because of this tail-light problem it’s reported that Mercedes-Benz has received more than 23,000 warranty claims.
