According to Khabar Khodro, mitsubishi plans to show off the GC-PHEV Concept at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
This concept was originally revealed at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show, but this will be its North American debut. A teaser photo, showing the silhouette of a mystery SUV on a sand dune with the caption, “the return of a legend,” was released by the company along with a save-the-date announcement for the upcoming Chicago Auto Show.
The concept previews what will see in the next-generation Montero, a full-size SUV that is likely to be on its way back to the U.S. market. The Montero was sold in the U.S. from 1983 to 2005 though it is still sold in worldwide markets as the Pajero. Recently, Mitsubishi’s CEO said that he would like to bring the next-generation Pajero to the U.S., including a new plug-in hybrid version of the SUV.
Specifications are unknown, but we do know that power for the GC-PHEV concept comes from a supercharged 3.0-liter MIVEC V6 engine mated to a plug-in hybrid setup.
