Jaguar “XD” Hatchback Rendered

According to Khabar Khodro, Jaguar's plans for a C-segment hatchback have been on the backburner for years. But while nothing concrete has emerged, the company is known to have been toying with the idea since it unveiled the R-D6 concept back in 2003.

This leaves Jaguar without a small hatch and also leaves the luxury 5-door market all to rivals like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Lexus.

However, with Jaguar now in better financial health thanks to Indian parent company Tata, the debut of a hatchback remains a distinct possibility. To show what we could expect, artist Theophilus Chin has had a go at rendering it.

Called the “XD” by Chin, the rendering looks like a mashup of an XF, a Mazda3 and a Volkswagen Golf. It’s obviously not the real deal, but it does at least show that not all Jaguar design cues translate so neatly into a hatchback’s shape.
