Skoda Rapid to be produced in China

The Czech based automaker Skoda is planning to produce its Rapid sub-compact car in China, which will be based on the MissionL concept revealed in Frankfurt, last year.

Even if there is no official word on this decision from Skoda or its parent company Volkswagen just yet, the guys at autonews.gasgoo.com are saying that the production version of the MissionL Concept, which will be named the Rapid, will be assembled in China. The all-new Chinese Skoda Rapid is expected to be slightly different than the one currently made in India since October 2011, but more details on the model will be announced shortly.

As a small reminder, the Skoda MissionL concept car has been officially presented to the public back in 2011, during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and the vehicle has made quite a fuzz with the production version being expected by a lot of future customers. The Skoda Rapid is already being assembled in India ever since October 2011 and the model is 4,39 meters long, 1,70 meters wide and 1,4 meters tall. Two engines are available for the Indian Rapid, both of them with the 1.6 liter displacement, delivering around 103 HP, with one being a petrol burner and the other a diesel. The Rapid will fill the gap between the Fabia and the Octavia and it’s expected to be similar in size to the VW Golf or the Ford Focus.
