Audi Opens High-Voltage Battery Facility

Audi plans to focus more on production of electric vehicles that is why it recently opened high-voltage battery facility near its main plant in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Volkswagen plans to built by 2020 an electric e-tron model and offer it to each segment of the market. At the recently opened facility engineers are working hard on building a prototype for special battery cells used for high-voltage batteries. The company focuses more on testing high voltage batteries at module, cell and system level, prototyping and producing battery systems, manufacturing batteries for Audi R8 E-tron and fleet batteries for the Audi A1 E-Tron, designing and developing its own software and hardware.

The battery house took two years to be constructed, being considered an important step towards electric mobility for Audi and it also offers the certainty that Audi will manufacture batteries that meet its quality requirements. Audi hired for the project house 100 electronics experts.

“The close collaboration in the high-voltage battery project house paves the way for efficient, sustainable series production of electric cars,” said Said Frank Dreves, head of Audi’s manufacturing.
